Joe Barton, assclown

Posted by MrPlow on 19 May, 2009

from Think Progress, via Wonkette, Joe Barton on Carbon Dioxide again:

Perhaps someone should show Barton this or this or this or this.

Would it make a difference? Probably not.

Horrible, horrible in Oakland

Posted by MrPlow on 22 March, 2009

First three, and now now four Oakland police officers were murdered over the weekend.

See here for the memorial for the officers.

and then there are these people; there was a person representing them on the KTVU news this evening who seemed to think that the dead officers got not, what they deserved, but more than they should have.

Jesus Effing Christ

Go read Matt Taibbi in Rolling stone. It’s pretty much the absolute best job of laying out what the hell companies like AIG did to our country.

Bloom County to get book reprints!

Posted by MrPlow on 9 February, 2009

Publishers Weekly’s comics blog reports that

IDW Publishing had become known as the home to some very high quality classic comic strips reprints — Terry and the Pirates, Dick Tracy, the upcoming Rip Kirby — but they are now turning to what might be called a “modern classic” with The Bloom County Library

HAPPY DAY! Very, very happy day! I loved Bloom County when it was in the newspapers, and read it every day. I at least used to own all of the books, which I don’t seem to be able to find any more, apart from one or two of them. On Berke Breathed’s website, it states that the first volume should be out in October.

I can’t wait!

China to defend record in Geneva?

Posted by MrPlow on 8 February, 2009

According to the BBC, the Chinese government are going to defend their human rights record in front of the UN Human Rights Council this week. Presumably, they will tell them that they only execute people when they’ve done something really heinous, like criticize the government.

I gotta say, I found this bit from the BBC report to be pretty funny:

The human rights council cannot order China to make changes – it has no enforcement powers.
But it is the world’s top human rights body, and as such has moral authority.

Indeed, they have huge moral authority, especially when you look at the membership of that august body, and it includes such paragons of human rights like Saudi Arabia, China (Hello!), Nigeria, Pakistan, and Russia.
